Wawa CEO and President Chris Gheysens stood nose-to-beak with mascot Wally Goose Wednesday morning at a ground-breaking for the Wawa Market across from Palm Beach International Airport.

Five Wawas will open simultaneously as the Pennsylvania-based chain makes its entry into Palm Beach County in the coming months — one in West Palm, one in Greenacres, one in Riviera Beach and two in Palm Springs.

Mayor Jeri Muoio and County Commissioner Steve Abrams were among the dignitaries on hand for the event.

“Finally around here people will call a sub by its true name, a hoagie,” said Abrams, who hails from Philadelphia.
