With Moonfest coming up this weekend, Mayor Jeri Muoio is issuing an executive order to ban anyone under 18 years of age from downtown from 9 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday.
The city curfew normally starts at 11 p.m. but the mayor’s order starts it two hours early during the festival, where alcohol is sold. The Police Department expects more than 30,000 people will attend, Moonfest, based on past years.
“Increasing restricted hours for minors during Moonfest will assist in promoting the
health, safety and general welfare of minors and will further allow the Police Department to focus its attention on the health, safety and welfare of the Moonfest participants and business patrons both at the event and in the surrounding downtown area beginning at an earlier hour,” according to Monday’s city commission agenda.
In addition, the city commission voted unanimously Monday to drop the regular curfew to 10 p.m. seven days a week rather than 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night. This will be in place as a pilot program for the next few months.
